Yeoman Duffel

A good and strong, go-anywhere duffel bag. The Yeoman Duffel Bag is a capacious duffel bag, cheerfully ready to schlep gear for your next adventure. It’s likely to become your #1 go-to bag for road trips, camping, and for handling excess gear that needs to fly as checked luggage.

The humble Yeoman has features that are more or less common to duffel bags, but with TOM BIHN attention to detail, materials, and aesthetics. Two-inch webbing handles snap together with a padded palm grip, top dead center; under that, a generous hatch opens wide with a #10 double slider zipper for easy access. When the time come to dislodge the Yeoman from an over-stuffed car trunk or baggage carousel, simple webbing loop handles on either end make it easy. Our proprietary, heavy-duty shoulder strap attachment points are ready to accept any shoulder strap you have around, or any of ours: for a bag that can get this heavy, we recommend the ĂĽber-comfortable Absolute Shoulder Strap. There are no pockets inside or out to confuse things, though there are five O-ring tether points: if you really want organization you can add some of optional pouches. The usual finished seams and stout bartacks complete the details.

The Yeoman Duffel is available in four sizes:

Mini

What can't this size be used for?! It's a great bag for stowing car gear, snacks, chargers, sunscreen, water bottles. It can also be used as a basic needs overnight bag with a change of clothes, a few toiletries, and a phone charger. It's also the perfect size for hauling kid treasures: favorite blankets and stuffies nestle right in, and it's so easy to pop in Travel Stuff Sacks full of building blocks, card games, or any other little diversions. Because it's made of tough 1050d Ballistic nylon, it can withstand being dragged around.

Small

We know folks who use the Yeoman Duffel, Size Small as a golf bag or a small gym bag. We've used ours to pack food supplies for trips to the cabin. It's also great as a family day trip bag: pack your sunscreen, jackets, hats, binoculars, tablets, coloring books/art supplies, snacks, and be on your way.

Medium

You can fit a surprising amount of gear into the Yeoman Duffel, Size Medium. And, honestly, one of the great things about it is that you can unceremoniously toss stuff into it when you're in a rush. There's no small compartments or pockets on the inside to get in your way. Toss in your gear and go! The Medium is a great size for two people to share as a travel bag: let your stuff co-mingle, or use color-coded Packing Cubes to keep "mine" separate from "yours."

Large

We used our Yeoman Duffel, Size Large to pack and check on our flight (those lockable luggage sliders came in handy!) a three-person tent, four sleeping bags, four sleeping pads and a first-aid-kit for a trip to Yellowstone National Park. It can also hold enough linens for a queen sized bed: sheets, duvet/comforter, and two pillows—perfect for toting to family reunions or holiday gatherings when you know there won't be enough bedding to go around.

The Yeoman is built entirely from our U.S.-made 1050 denier high-tenacity Ballistic nylon—but unlike other TOM BIHN bags, which are made from flawless 1050d ballistic, the Yeoman is made of fabric that is what we call “seconds”; fabric that may have cosmetic blemishes which do not impact its utility or durability.

Here’s the thing: we are perfectionists around here, and what our fabric inspectors consider “seconds” isn’t necessarily what our fabric mills would consider seconds. When we receive ballistic nylon with flaws, it’s ours to keep: because we are one of the last consumers of domestic 1050 ballistic, our mills no longer accept returned goods. We don't receive much flawed fabric, but we've been saving up what we do get, waiting for the right idea to come along. And so it has: the Yeoman Duffel.

So it's highly likely that you will find some small cosmetic blemishes somewhere on your Yeoman Duffel, which may include irregular shading, a streak or lighter colored yarn, a small "slub" (a knot or thick spot in the yarn), or some unevenness in the urethane coating. These blemishes or flaws are strictly cosmetic in nature, and will not impact the Yeoman's utility or durability. These peculiarities are inconsistent and will vary from bag to bag, meaning no two will be exactly alike. This also means that while you can choose the color of your Yeoman Duffel, we cannot tell you what its unique personality will be: it's 100% potluck (kind of exciting, eh?).
